Prof. Robert Birgeneau is the Arnold & Barbara Silverman Professor of Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, and Public Policy at UC Berkeley (see Bio). His topic will be the challenges in public higher education with an emphasis on equity and inclusion. Prof. Birgeneau is the former Chancellor of UC Berkeley and is a gifted administrative leader at MIT, the University of Toronto, and of course at Cal. Prof. Birgeneau also has Massachusetts connections from 25 years at MIT, where he was an eminent faculty and the Dean of Science—with many contributions, but especially towards gender equity for women scientists at MIT. He has been the recipient of many awards for landmark contributions to physics and public service to higher education.

Event Details: This is a unique opportunity to meet one of the stellar faculty and leaders from Cal. The format will be a talk by Prof. Birgeneau followed by Q&A and networking. A light dinner will be provided. The attendance will be capped at 30 persons.
